Transition into fall

September 29th, 2009

“Change is the essence of life.  Be willing to surrender what you are for what you could become.”

So are you wondering what is at the fore front of the fashion industry?  Luckily the hair trends for this fall are wearable, sexy and with a little practice easy to do!  To contrast the cool dark tones found all over the runway, hair with deep sophisticated red tones is popular.  Also platinum blondes and rich brunette colors are beautiful and complimentary to this seasons styles.  If your happy with your current color and aren’t ready to change adding a gloss can leave your hair shiny and give your old color new life.  Ask your stylist to recommend colors that will compliment your skin tones.

Styling your hair this season is fun , functional , and versatile.  Hair trends span the board from sleek sophistication to full blow rock and roll.  There are easy to manage styles for everyone.  A look found on many runways could only be described as natural. (Think beach hair)  If your lucky enough to have natural wave in your hair this look could be simply achieved by using a styling aid , when applied to hair will work with natural textures our stylist recommend their favorite products for this look.

  • “KMS hair play sea salt spray works great for this style.  If you’re going to use this product often on your hair use a detox shampoo like Detox cleansing treatment from Min” Kierstan
  • ” Curly twist from Goldwell is my favorite product to use on natural wave.” Alexis

Also a  popular look is very curled sophisticated styles.  These looks mirror the finished styles of  the 1940s .  Side partings and bold lipstick complete these mermaid style waves.  These looks require some prep time and may take a few trial runs before perfecting.  This look can be achieved by using, pin curls, curling irons or hot rollers.  Products  recommended for this set look are

1940s-hair1

  • KMS Hair Stay Sculpting lotion, apply to towel dried hair, perfect for use on sculpted hair and leaves hair looking soft and manageable
  • KMS Hot spiral spray, this product is perfect for spraying sections prior to curling, it is light weight and adds just the right amount of shine

Across the pond, a brief interview with Franklyn stylist Danni

September 22nd, 2009

What is the universal language ?  Many people theorize that its math, maybe art, but what is the one thing that is globally valued?  The one item that transcends culture, time, and is virtually unaffected by economics, is Beauty.  The beauty industry is a multi billion dollar machine that reaches every corner of the world.  Cultures have  for thousands of years evolved their beauty techniques.  The early Egyptians wore wigs and adorned their hair with ornaments, isn’t it amazing how these  rituals have survived today?

Across the globe in ever town you can find a salon, or a beauty professional.  Have you ever wondered how other cultures maintain their beauty routines?  What are salons like in other countries?  Danni Gambino, one of Franklyn studios stylist has worked in several countries and in an interview described  these very different atmospheres.

What areas of  the world have you worked in the beauty industry?

I’ve worked in Dubai, Manchester England, Spain, Belgium, and America.

What is the most fashion forward area , that you’ve worked in ?

Definitely England , styles there are very edgy .

What was the biggest challenge/change in working in Salons in the United States?

Styles in the United States are so muted compared to England, also the general sense of humor among people is different.  Humor in England tends to be dry , almost like  sarcasm.  It took awhile for me to adjust to these changes.

Describe the differences in salon life

In England everyone who worked in my salon were local and had lived there their whole lives.  The salon was an open floor plan where clients interacted freely.  They played alot of funky music and our salon was located on high street.  The salon had huge windows were we could see the busy street outside.

In Dubai the men and women had separate areas in the salon, The majority of the stylists that worked there were English.  In the salon dividers were placed to shield women  who removed their robes,  to prevent men in the area from seeing them.  The salon was very modern and upscale.

In Spain the salon was divided into rooms.  Each stylist was in a seperate private room with their client, the rooms were not spacious and had no windows .

How often did clients visit the salons?

Clients basically visit the salon at the same interval that they do in the US

What other salon services were popular among clients ? (Manicures, facials, etc)

In Spain the spa was located in a resort area one of  the most popular services was a massage.

What styles were prominent during your stay at each area?

In Spain and Dubai women’s hair was generally long and very plain.  In England hair was very punk rock, and edgy.

General expereinces from each area?

I liked Spain for its weather, it was a great learning experience and i grew alot personally there.  I felt I grew alot in England as well.  I feel that Franklyn Studio is the best place I worked,  due to marketing and the general structure of the business.

Simply the Best News from the Area’s Hottest Salon!

September 2nd, 2009

You did it again!

For the 11th year in a row, you chose Franklyn Studio as the area’s “Best Hair Salon”. This designation was announced in Harrisburg Magazine’s August issue which listed the companies that readers labeled “Simply the Best”… including Franklyn.

stb2009group

In addition to Franklyn Studio’s award, Franklyn Men was bestowed with the title of “Best Barber Shop” in the region. After being open for only two years, we feel this honor is an indication that you’re as happy as we are with our decision to offer guys a unique, relaxed place to go for all their hair and grooming needs.

These exciting accolades came right on the heels of another that we received in the spring. When Central PA Magazine’s “2009 Hot List” was publicized, Franklyn Studio had snagged the “Best Hair Salon” award as a direct result of your nominations.

So what do these honors mean? Plenty!

Out of all the places you could go for cuts, styles, color and, above all else, personalized attention, you’ve chosen Franklyn time and again.

On behalf of the whole Franklyn family, I can tell you that we feel privileged to experience this kind of reputation and mutual respect. After all, our clients are the reason we’ve been in business since 1974. These recent marks of distinction tell us we’re on the right track in terms of customer service and we’re always trying to up the ante to stay “simply the best” and always the “hottest”! Who knows what excitement the next 35 years will bring?

We’re grateful for your patronage and hope to see you soon…..

F.A.B.B. Tip, how to manage your curly hair

September 2nd, 2009

“For curly hair use KMS hot spiral spray, let hair air dry until a little damp then diffuse…”                  -Deneen

” With curly hair, the less you style the better, the right product is everything “    - Mel

Everyone wants something other then what they have, this holds  true of 90% of women when asked about their hair.  Women with gorgeous straight hair would do anything for curly hair and vice versa.  Often times managing your hair becomes a daily frustration when you aren’t using proper techniques or products for your hair texture.  Curly hair can be especially frustrating without proper product knowledge and know how.   Our product line, Curl Up  from KMS, contains  amazing products for taming your curls.  When used together these products defrizz, moisturize and help maintain the beautiful natural structure of your curls.  Curl up contains a unique natural astringent, citrus and mint, this makes the natural structure of hair tighter, thus enhancing your curls.  The information below describes each product in this line and when used in conjunction  can improve the look and style of your hair.
